Modern Farmhouse Family Room

This room was once a bedroom on our main floor, but as we settled into our space as newlyweds we discovered that an extra living space would go a lot further then an extra bedroom would. We cleared everything out, painted the walls (from plum to a soothing grey) and purchased shelving to hold Nick’s record collection (the milk crate bins on the floor were no longer doing it for me).

We did this room on a budget and I am SO impressed with how little we’ve spent on this room, but how cozy and put together it feels already! If I had to sum up the style, I’d say it’s Modern Farmhouse style. Clean lines, simple furniture with rustic elements.

My favourite part of the room is all the items I found for a bargain! When I change up the decor seasonally, it’s much more cost efficient to go to the Dollar Store and get creative. I am not too proud to say I shop for decor pieces there, because the end result looks great and no one would be the wiser!

Take a look at what I came up with!

Purchase List for styling the shelf:

  • Wall Mirror $3.00
  • Picture Frame x2 $2.00 each
  • Candle Holder $3.50
  • Plastic Greenery $4.00
  • Candle in Jar $1.50
  • Decorative Paper Roll $1.50 (which I used to wrap a hard cover book to add a punch of colour)

Nick is happy that I chose Dollarama over Home Sense and I’m pretty happy with the overall results! You’ll find me curled up on this cozy chair-and-a-half listening to Otis Redding.
