Care Packages for Cornerstone

For those of you who have been following my Care Packages for Cornerstone, then you know that I’ve been collecting basic hygiene items for a men’s shelter in Durham. For those of you reading for the first time, this may inspire you to do something for your community!

There was a need for hygienic items amongst the clients and I felt like I wanted to do what I could to help the men of Durham region and downtown Oshawa. I’ve seen this area change so much over the last 5-10 years and it’s only going to get better with your help!

Why Cornerstone? Nick works with the men there as a Social Worker and he was the one to inform me of the need.

What was the outcome? With your help, I was able to create 25 care packages as well as organize small sized bottles of soap and shampoo for the workers to distribute when a need arises.

Who are the packages for? When someone is homeless they are admitted to the shelter where they are provided with basic needs there; such as tooth brushes, soap, etc. Nick works with men who are no longer homeless, but need assistance. He will check in on them, take them to appointments, lead workshops and organize group activities (a trip to their local garden or a fishing trip are some recent outings). Now that these men are on their own, they need a little help. That’s where our care packages come in to play!

What did the care packages contain? I am so thrilled that we were able to collect so many products! So far they have heard positive feed back from clients saying they love the t-shirts, socks and body wash the best. Here are a list of items that each package contained:

  • Body Wash
  • XL or M T-shirt
  • Tooth Brush
  • Toothpaste
  • Floss or Mouth Wash
  • Shampoo
  • Shaving Cream
  • Razors
  • Socks

I just wanted to thank all who donated and took their time to help out. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without you! Your generosity is so appreciated. How can you continue to help? Collect those items in need and donate! You can also pray for the homeless and those who are re-building their lives after being homeless. You never know who they are, what their story is and how they ended up where they are today. Show kindness and stay determined to clean up your community!
